Abigail Tessier: Awakenings in Color: A Transformation of Self through Spirituality and Synesthesia

As a queer, autistic artist with synesthesia, my work explores the fluidity of my identity, transformation, and the crossing-over between inner and outer worlds. Psychedelic ideas have always been at the core of my expression, imbued with spiritual symbolism, surreal shapes, and motifs of whimsy. My portraits, particularly those depicting female nudity, aim to dissolve the boundaries between body and soul, creating a space where vulnerability and power coexist. The recurring presence of eyes and swirling lines throughout my works alludes to a deeper understanding of perception - how we see ourselves and the world around us, and how the world sees us. Through color, texture, and form, I hope to invite viewers to step into these evolving visions, and perhaps see something of their own journeys mirrored within.
